The Banshee

Some of the beauty of mythology and folk tales lie in the fact that they’re stories that try to explain things that were either unknown or incomprehensible to the people of that time.
As such, it is my firm belief that the tale of the banshee was inspired by misinterpreted fox screams in the wild.
If you’ve ever heard them before, you’ll know that some of them can sound a lot like a horrified woman (or a banshee). One can only imagine how terrorizing these sounds must’ve been to any poor medieval villager who was already on edge or had no clue as to what he was actually listening to while wandering the forest.
